Effect of Silicon Amendment on Herbivore Induced Plant Volatiles of Rice Plant Infested by Brown Planthopper Nilaparvata Lugens (Stål)

چکیده
Silicon (Si) is known to play a very important role in plant’s direct and indirect defense. In rice plants, its impact on induced volatiles released upon Brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens feeding less understood. The BPH-induced volatile compounds from Si amended plants were analyzed using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS). alteration Herbivore Induced Plant Volatiles (HIPV’s) blend was observed, wherein, total 38 HIPVs found be differentially released. HIPV mainly belongs alkane, alkene, alcohol terpene groups. Overall, amendment caused significant effect the composition of rice, some which are involved tri-trophic interaction.

Molecular mapping and genetic analysis of a rice brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens Stål) resistance gene.
The brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens Stål, is a serious insect pest of rice (Oryza saliva L.). We have determined the chromosomal location of a BPH resistance gene in rice using SSR and RFLP techniques. A rice line 'B14', derived from the wild rice Oryza latifolia, showed high resistance to BPH. For tagging the resistance gene in 'B14X', an F2 population and a recombinant inbred (RI)...

Engineering and breeding resistant plant varieties are the most effective and environmentally friendly ways to control agricultural pests and improve crop performance. However, the mechanism of plant resistance to pests is poorly understood. Here we used a quantitative mass-spectrometry-based proteomic approach for comparative analysis of expression profiles of proteins in rice leaf sheaths in ...
متن کاملAntifeedant and insecticidal effects of mandelic acid on the brown planthopper Nilaparvata lugens Stål.
To study the effects of mandelic acid (MA) on the brown planthopper (BPH), Nilaparvata lugens, the survival rate and behaviour of BPH fed on an artificial diet with different dosages of MA was observed. The survival rate of BPH decreased with the increase of the MA concentration and feeding time. In contrast to the control, the survival rate of BPH 72 h after feeding decreased significantly. El...

This study investigated the effects of sub-lethal high temperatures on the development and reproduction of the brown plant hopper Nilaparvata lugens (Stål). When first instar nymphs were exposed at their ULT(50) (41.8°C) mean development time to adult was increased in both males and females, from 15.2±0.3 and 18.2±0.3 days respectively in the control to 18.7±0.2 and 19±0.2 days in the treated i...
متن کاملSilicon Supplementation Alters the Composition of Herbivore Induced Plant Volatiles and Enhances Attraction of Parasitoids to Infested Rice Plants
Silicon (Si) is important in plant defenses that operate in a direct manner against herbivores, and work in rice (Oryza sativa) has established that this is mediated by the jasmonate signaling pathway. Plant defenses also operate indirectly, by the production of herbivore induced plant volatiles (HIPVs) that attract predators and parasitoids of herbivores. These indirect defenses too are mediat...
